Greater Honeyguide

The Greater Honeyguide is more often heard than seen. Every now and again, one ends up in a mist net! This selection of photos shows the different age and sex plumages. The outer tail feathers have white as in many honeyguide species.

Juvenile

The juvenile has an attractive head pattern with a black bill, yellowish throat and blue eye-ring.

Immature

The immature male has a pale pinkish bill.

Female

The female below has a black bill, the throat may have a faint yellow wash, and the colour is gone from the eye-ring.

Male

The male has a pale bill and dark head but with white ear coverts.
